Emergency Medical Technician provides first line medical or emergency care for sick and injured and emergency care to the patient. In emergency incidents like accidents, childbirth, slips and falls, heart attacks and gunshot wounds all require immediate medical attention. EMTs and paramedics provide this vital service as they care for and transport the sick or injured to a medical facility as per the guidelines and medical protocols. EMT provide emergency care while transporting the patient. Some of the paramedical are also trained for treatment of minor injuries under the supervision of physicians. Equipments like backboards are used to immobilize patients before placing them on the stretchers by securing them in the ambulance while transporting to a medical facility / trauma centre.

EMTs transport patients from one medical facility to another, in case if they work for private ambulance services. Patients are then transferred to a hospital which specializes in the specific injury or illness.
